Position Summary:
 
Job Title: Restaurant Training General Manager/Assistant General Manager
Location: Washington, D.C.
 
The Assistant General Manager is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for supporting all aspects of restaurant operations. You will be a General Manager in Training. This role focuses on guest satisfaction, team development, sales growth, financial performance, and maintaining the highest standards of service and hospitality. The ideal candidate is a natural leader who can inspire teams, hold people accountable, and create memorable experiences for guests while helping drive profitability and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and mentor front-of-house managers and hourly team members.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train new employees.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ongoing coaching sessions.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture.
  • Ensure all team members embody the company hospitality standards.
Guest Experience
  • Actively engage with guests and build relationships with regulars.
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Ensure every guest receives exceptional hospitality.
  • Monitor online reviews and guest feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
Operations Excellence
  • Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and local regulations.
  • Manage daily opening, shift management, and closing procedures.
  • Drive execution of service standards and operational systems. Financial Performance
  • Support achievement of sales, labor, and profitability targets.
  • Manage scheduling to optimize labor efficiency.
  • Assist with inventory controls and cost management.
  • Analyze key performance indicators and implement action plans.
 
Community & Sales Growth 
  • Build relationships with local businesses, hotels, concierges, residential buildings, and community organizations.
  • Support private dining, corporate events, and promotional initiatives.
  • Assist in executing local marketing strategies and community outreach programs.
 
What We're Looking For: 
  • 4+ years of restaurant management experience.
  • Proven leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of food, beverage, wine, and hospitality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience managing labor, scheduling, and financial performance.
  • High energy, positive attitude, and strong attention to detail.
  • ServSafe Certification.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Assistant General Manager or General Manager experience in a high-volume restaurant.
  • Experience with corporate dining, private events, and hospitality sales.
  • Wine, cocktail, and beverage knowledge.
  • Experience with POS systems and restaurant management software; POSI Touch and CrunchTime is a bonus.
 
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Competitive salary: $70,000 - $90,000+ annually (based on experience)
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities up to 10% of salary, paid at completion of y/e financials.
